Jessica Peek Sherwood, flute

Jessica Peek Sherwood has been an advocate of new music since attending college at the University of Michigan. Recent solo appearances include Art on the BeltLine (sponsored by the City of Atlanta), FLUX / 2010 in Castlebury Hill, New Music Detroit’s strange beautiful music II marathon (including the premiere of a work by Steve Everett for flute and live electronics), as well as the JacobTV Festival at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She has worked with video artists in the creation of visual enhancements to accompany live performance. FAV (flute and video), a collaborative performance with visual artist Amber Boardman, was presented this past July in Atlanta by Flux Projects. An active free-lance musician, she has performed with the Atlanta, Alabama, and Charleston Symphony Orchestras, and the Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Ballet Orchestras. Prior to moving to Atlanta, Jessica performed extensively throughout the South Florida region, including work with the New World Symphony and the Naples Philharmonic. She was also a member of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Charleston, South Carolina, and Spoleto, Italy. As a teaching artist, Jessica is a member of the Woodruff Arts Center’s Arts4Learning Collaborative, providing arts education residencies in schools throughout the metro Atlanta area.  Additionally, she teaches Irish flute through the Atlanta Irish Music School in Roswell, Georgia, and assists with the music program at The Paideia School. Her primary flute teachers include the late Clement Barone, Kazuo Tokito, and David Cramer.
