Free Online Music Technology Course

I will be teaching a free online course in music technology through Coursera in the summer of 2013. In this survey course, we will learn to make music with digital audio workstation software, understand the theory and history behind music production tools, and write our own computer programs to make new music and sounds. There are no specific musical or technical prerequisites.

UrbanRemix In Times Square

In collaboration with the Times Square Alliance Public Art Program, UrbanRemix will host a series of events in Times Square. Throughout April and May 2011, the public is invited to capture and contribute sounds from Times Square using the free UrbanRemix apps for iPhone/iOS and Android. Then, using the web site, anyone-anywhere can explore the contributed sounds online, view them on a virtual map of Times Square, and mix and share their own soundscapes. On May 12, New York-based electronic musicians Travis Thatcher and Damon Holzborn will perform live remixes of the collected sounds in a free performance in Times Square.

UrbanRemix At SONiC

In collaboration with the American Composers Orchestra and the SONiC Festival, UrbanRemix invites New Yorkers to record sounds around the city that have the essence of new music to you, or that are found at SONiC performances or near performance venues. Electronic musicians Sam Pluta and Jeff Snyder (exclusiveOr) will present a live performance based on the sounds you record on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 10 p.m. at Roulette. My Piano Etudes will be broadcast on public radio's classical music show, Performance Today, on January 15, 2010. The broadcast is of a performance by pianist Jenny Lin at Spivey Hall in Atlanta. Airing times vary with different public radio stations; check your local listings. Or you can also listen to the program at your convenience online.
